Highlight reel from our last closed beta weekend. I’m super happy with how this game is coming along. I’ve made major changes to the way voice chat works in the next beta, and I’m really excited to see how users like it!
More interesting airframe geometry. In order: Grumman X-29, Northrop YF-23 “Gray Ghost”, Grumman F-14 Tomcat, Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit
My buddy Tim Doolen regularly posts amazing stuff, but on this particular post the image of the two SR-71 pilots in full life support gear really caught me.
Some reading on the topic taught me that the spikes on the front of the Mach 3+ rated Pratt & Whitney J58 engines were actually controlled by an analog computer that would move the spike forward or backwards depending on the speed of the craft. The spike served to move the supersonic shockwave of air, ensuring the air entering the engine always traveled at a subsonic speed.
It’s amazing what engineers pulled off in the analog space before digital computing was as ubiquitous as it is.

Difficulty Setting: Straight White Male
Thanks to Davin, who linked this on Twitter.
This is kind of the best write-up ever.
The author indicates that white males generally shy away from this reality, which I consider odd. If anything it should cause people like myself to be more thankful for what they’ve been given and cause them to strive even harder to maximize what was, ultimately, luck of the draw.
It also plays into my thoughts on the estate tax, which is proving to be a very unpopular topic of discussion.
